  • IRB Incident Sumner Beach

    The Sumner SLSC Committee would like to update their membership regarding this recent incident.

     

    Situation

     

    On Wednesday 11 October 2017 at Sumner beach, whilst undertaking IRB driver training a club member was injured.

     

    At the time of this incident the member was accompanied by an instructor. Both were wearing helmets and approved flotation devices.

     

    A second IRB was in the water and promptly came to their assistance.

     

    The IRB they were using continued unmanned and was later secured.

     

    Further Action

     

    The member has been and will continue to be well supported by our club.

     

    As well as working closely with Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, the Committee has undertaken an inquiry into this incident.

     

    We will continue to look for improvement in everything we do. Some initiatives have been discussed and are currently being reviewed.

     

    The Committee fully supports all safety initiatives, including the wearing of helmets and flotation devises whilst operating an IRB
